About the CounselorI have been the school counselor at Joy James Elementary for three years. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in social work from Baylor University and a Master of Education degree in School Counseling from Lamar University. I also have a Master of Social Work degree from Tulane University. I practiced as a clinical social worker for 10 years before becoming a teacher. I was a teacher for 14 years in elementary, middle, and high school as a special education teacher and in high school and middle school as a foreign language teacher. I live in Decatur with my husband and three children. I am a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Role and Philiosophy |
My role as a school counselor is to remove barriers to learning and achievement and promote success for all students. As a school counselor I will help all students achieve through being a leader, an advocate, a collaborator, consultant, and as a counselor. I respect diversity and will teach others about diversity in order to achieve a learning environment that accepts every student and helps all to succeed academically and socially. I am committed to helping children become life-long learners.
